Šumava Mountains - The National Park Sumava

For its exceptional natural values, especially for the purpose of their conservation Šumava has been in 1991 declared for national park.
Its extent is 69 030 hectare and is the largest national park not just in the Czech Republic, but also in Central Europe. Šumava Mountains is, together with the adjacent Bavarian Forest National Park part of a homogeneous natural unity with the extent of about 2000 km2, the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve also called "Green Roof of Europe".
It is the largest continuous forested mountains in Central Europe.

The Czech part of the Šumava National Park extends along the southwestern border (Český Krumlov) to Germany and Austria between Železná Ruda (NW) and Zvonková (SW), with nearly 70 km long and 2-15 km wide.

When to visit Šumava National Park?

For visit - in principle - are all months of the year felicitous. Among the most attractive part of the year is early autumn, when wrap the whole mountains of gold and appear in the valleys of the first shreds of autumn fog, or the late spring, with incredible number of shades of green.
